Someone once described themselves as ‘a recovering academic’. That tickled me. I love books, I’ve got a PhD, I have taught English Literature to university students in London and in Kent and I still do a lot of work with education, heritage and literature. I don’t separate that side of myself completely from yoga practice – how we use language in yoga teaching is very important, yoga is full of wonderful images and stories, and of course yoga philosophy is yet another dimension to explore. But for me, yoga offers a great freedom for the body and the mind that is hard to find elsewhere. I hope I bring that sense of vitality and freedom to my yoga classes. – Joanna Labon
